Positive Thinking = Positive Results

If you are not familiar with DocMikeEvans, I highly suggest you view his videos. This video discusses how important it is to maintain positivity during times of stress. Specifically, changing your mindset by just changing a simple word. I discuss this in my video titled "What is your one word"? Here, DocMikeEvans gets at how effective, physiologically, it can be to change your mindset when it comes to negativity.

My research is moving more towards how to create a behavior change. You can watch all the videos you want or read all the articles you can find but until you actually sit down and practice what you are learning, there is a good chance you will never make that change. Therefore, after watching the DocMikeEvans video, see if you can write down one or two words or phrases that you have been using lately that may have some negative undertones. Can you make them more positive? Can you think of a time in your past where you experienced stress that may have been overwhelming but you made it through? What worked then that may be able to help you now?

Within the positive psychology literature, just changing one word or thought can alter your mindset moving forward. Instead of thinking, "Wow, I cannot believe that I am stuck in my house for another day." What would it look like if you just changed that phrase to "Wow, I am going to spend this extra time today enjoying nature." Don't get me wrong. This is not easy to do. It takes practice and will not alter your mood by doing it once but the more you do it, the more results you will see. I am not trying to sugarcoat this situation. It will not be easy to change your mindset but may be worth a try. These are unprecedented times but how you respond to these daily stressors may seem irrelevant now but will make a lasting difference moving forward. This pandemic is tough on everyone. Some more than others. How you respond to these unchartered waters can alter your well-being for the good or for the bad. It is your decision!. Give yourself a break and try to look at the glass half full. You might be pleasantly surprised.
